Each year, the South Dakota Army National Guard provides an opportunity to individuals interested in obtaining a debt-free college degree from a South Dakota Board of Regents University. For 2019, the South Dakota Army National Guard will provide three four-year scholarships to selected SDARNG Soldiers who qualify and have the ambition to become a leader and officer in our organization. If you are selected for this scholarship, you will receive additional funding of a $420 monthly stipend, a $1,200 annual book stipend, and a monthly drill salary of $300 (depending on your years of service): totaling over $60,000 in potential benefits to the awardees. Additional two-and three-year Minuteman Scholarships are available for those individuals already enrolled in college.ACT NOW! The deadline is 5:00 PM MST 8April2019.
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants are required to meet all eligibility requirements and complete the checklist in the enclosure
1. Requirements must be met prior to the application deadline.
a. Be a US Citizen.
b. Between ages of 17-30 (Cannot turn 31 during projected commissioning year)
c. Meet HT/WT standards of AR 600-9.
d. Must have a current, passing Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT). Applicants without an APFT must schedule one through the Officer Strength Manager (OSM).
e. Applicants not currently serving in the SDARNG must meet all enlistment requirements, have a valid MEPS physical, and be projected for enlistment at the MEPS.
f. Letter of acceptance into University with Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC).
g. Non-prior service applicants seeking a 4-year scholarship nomination must have a minimum SAT of 1200 or ACT of 24. Applicants who are MOSQ (have completed Advanced Individual Training prior to Scholarship Board) seeking a 4-year scholarship must have a minimum SAT of 1000 or ACT of 19.
h. All applicants seeking a 3-year or less scholarship must have a minimum SAT of 1000 or ACT of 19.
i. All applicants must be academically aligned to accept a scholarship beginning either the Fall 2019 or Spring 2020 semester. 4-year applicants should be a college freshman starting Fall 2019 or Spring 2020. 3-year or less applicants should have sophomore or junior status in one of these semesters. Specialty programs and Masters programs requiring more or less time should contact the point of contact (POC) on this memorandum to seek guidance on eligibility.
