The nation's oldest military branch, the Georgia Army National Guard serves both state and federal governments.  In times of local natural disasters or civil disturbances, the Georgia Guard stands ready to help civilian authorities. When international conflicts arise, it serves alongside active military.

State Education Benefits

100% tuition at state public colleges and universites for undergraduate degrees (or up to $2,174/sem. at some eligible private schools). Partial coverage for tuition for Master's and Doctorate degrees. Tuition waiver is accomplished through the Georgia National Guard Service-Cancelable Loan: So long as the student remains a Georgia Guardsman in good standing for two years after completing school, tuition is waivered (the student's service cancels the loan).Also, a scholarship for Georgia Guardsmen/Reservists who are combat veterans deployed on/after 1 Feb 2003 is available. The Georgia HERO Scholarship is for up to $2,000/year for up to 4 years.It also includes provisions to give dependents a scholarship of their own.
